Our Founders
Co-Founder, Executive Director
Dr. Ramon Stephens is an Assistant Professor at San Jose State University, and a former Postdoctoral Fellow at Stanford University. He received his PhD in Education Studies from the University of California, San Diego.Â

His research focuses on identity and sense of belonging for children and adults brings over 20 years of experience in equity, diversity and inclusion.
Co-Founder, Chief Operating Officer
Katie Stephens is dedicated to educating and empowering children through access to diverse books and culturally relevant education.

Over the past decade, she has built the partnerships, fundraising, events, and operational systems that have grown the organization into a national force, putting more than 500,000 diverse children’s books into the hands of students across 10,000 Title I schools in all 50 states.
Executive Board
Camille E. Trummer is an interdisciplinary social impact consultant, inclusive facilitator, and engagement strategist based in Portland.
Dr. Altaf Husain serves as an Associate Professor and Chair of the Community, Administration and Policy Practice concentration in the Howard University School of Social Work, in Washington DC.
Valentina Alvarez is a social worker based in Washington state with a MSW from UCLA and undergraduate degree from the University of Washington.Â
